I was exploring some parts of Germany from my trip, when I came across this in Berlin.... The whole building is blurred out in Street view, no matter where you click. So it's definitely not a bug.

I know Google Maps has a few things censored, so is this yet another? Or what is it?

EDIT: Just realized it's (at least partially) the Checkpoint Charlie museum. I wonder why we're not allowed to see it?

Germany has a system where anyone in a building - home or office, I think - can request it be blurred from streetview. Might be that, or might be a Google easter egg where they've blurred out things to do with Communist censorship.

Your first thought is correct. It is a privacy issue, some people just don't want their stuff exposed to the entire world ;)

Heh. I've never understood why the desire of one individual for 'privacy' from streetview should override the desire of another, exhibitionist, individual for the opposite.

Still, my favourite objection to Streetview was from the sweet little old lady who worried that thieves could use it to see when people were home...
